Lorde was a fourth of the four ladies honoring Kurt Cobain by taking his place as frontman at Nirvana‘s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last April, a move that inspired a few detractors here and there, especially considering that the other three — Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and St. Vincent — are more closely associated with rock music.
Among those a little less than thrilled with Lorde’s inclusion is current Billboard cover star Iggy Azalea.
The rapper, who’s also holding down the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Fancy,” spoke to the publication for this week’s cover story and seemed to diss the Rock Hall’s decision to have the New Zealander perform “All Apologies,” backed by Nirvana’s Pat Smear, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl.

“Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” Azalea told Billboard. “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.”
She did not comment on the inclusion of Jett, Gordon and St. Vincent, real name Annie Clark, as part of the induction ceremony.
Azalea isn’t the only musician who’s come out critical of the Rock Hall or its ceremony this week. Earlier this week, Paul Stanley of KISS spoke to Radio.com about the ceremony following his band’s induction, taking shots at Rock Hall president Joel Peresman, among others.
